What you will learn:
STEAM Leadership Programme is designed to equip STEAM leaders in schools with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to drive impactful change in diverse educational contexts.
Participants will engage in expert-led sessions on leading change, capacity building, and STEAM curriculum development.
- Drive School-wide STEAM Change
Participants will confidently lead and execute school-wide STEAM initiatives, leading teams, managing resources, overcoming resistance, and embedding STEAM practices into everyday teaching and learning to deliver visible impact. - Build STEAM Team
Lead the creation of a dynamic, sustainable culture of professional learning that drives continuous growth for STEAM educators and delivers measurable improvements in teaching quality and student outcomes. - Design STEAM Curriculum
Lead the strategic planning and development of a high-quality, school-specific STEAM curriculum that aligns with school goals and prepares students for a rapidly changing world. - Develop Leadership
Demonstrate synthesised learning by undertaking the ‘Leadership for Change’ project to showcase measurable results and personal leadership growth, contributing directly to best practice in STEAM education.
Learning Experience:
STEAM Leadership is a 12-month programme, consisting of four core modules delivered through dynamic blended experiences, including in-person workshops, online seminars, self-paced readings, and hands-on projects.
Programme Structure:
Assessment and Certification:
The final assessment will be based on a STEAM project undertaken within the participant’s own school. The project should be based on learnings from this programme and will require a brief report to be submitted, as well as a presentation during the final part of the programme.
Successful participants will receive a UCL IOE Certificate of Programme Completion.

Dr Robert Legg
Programme Leader, UCL Centre for Educational Leadership
Rob is an experienced teacher and school leader whose career since 2001 has spanned schools and universities across the UK, New Zealand and France. His responsibilities have included various aspects of curriculum design, SEND, DEI, communications, arts leadership and technologies for learning.
Rob has also been extensively involved in initial teacher education and was previously director of large PGCE programme in the south of England. He designed, launched and taught a suite of music education courses at the national conservatoire of New Zealand, and was the inaugural co-director of a successful EdD programme. He has also supervised and examined MA, DMA and PhD students working on a range of topics in education.
Rob is Programme Leader for Teacher Development at University College London’s Institute of Education. His award-winning academic writing on themes in music education and cultural learning is published in journals such as Music Education Research, Research in Education, Psychology of Music and The Curriculum Journal while his book chapters, journalism, classroom materials and reviews can be found in many professional publications.
Rob is an accomplished choral conductor and music educator, plays the cello and the piano, and regularly works as musical director and repetiteur in youth musical theatre. He lives in Oxford with his two children.
Kate Barry
Assistant Principal for Curriculum at UCL Academy
Kate began her career as a Science teacher at Hampstead school and has spent the last 15 years as a Head of Science and Senior Leader in schools both in Camden and internationally. Kate is currently Assistant Principal for Curriculum at UCL Academy, where she was a founding member in 2012. UCL sponsored the Academy, which teaches a transformational Connected Curriculum to support students in closing the skills gap they were seeing in undergraduates.
Kate has a strong interest in curriculum design and is particularly passionate about curriculum design that enables students to activate their knowledge through challenging interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Kate co-leads the design and delivery of the Camden STEAM Hub, a pioneering two-year leadership programme for senior teachers from 40 primary and secondary schools across the borough, which supports schools to implement a STEAM curriculum and whole-school approach, and to build deep partnerships with employers and cultural institutions.
